There was pandemonium at Emu-Unor community in the Ndokwa-West Local Government Area of Delta State as suspected political thugs invaded the meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, killing one person and leaving two with gunshot injuries.
It was gathered that the meeting held on Saturday on the premises of one of the political leaders in the community and that the meeting was in preparation for the ward congress of the party.
The thugs, sources said, stormed the venue of the meeting and started shooting, causing pandemonium.
“They came in a large number with the intention of disrupting the meeting and in the process, they opened fire but the bullet hit one of the thugs.
“The deceased, Onyeka, and the two other persons sustained bullet wounds”
He said the situation was brought under control by a team of police officers who were on patrol in the area, noting that one of the thugs was arrested.
He added that the body of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, saying the command was investigating the incident to bring the perpetrators to book.
